Having dedicated 36 years to the field of crisis and emergency management, I have witnessed the evolution of support for individuals going through difficult times. My own experiences have taught me that the advice sought in the past tended to be dismissive and unhelpful, but thankfully, we have come a long way. Now, we acknowledge that it is okay to struggle, that our personal levels of resilience matter, and that resilience can be nurtured and strengthened.
Personal resilience is the ability of a person to cope with, adapt to, and bounce back from stressful situations. Our industry requires us to perform at a high level while facing enormous amounts of pressure. This is a difficult question. While personal resilience training will not eliminate the amount of stress and pressure we face, it can help us better manage the stress we do 99 acres database experience. The goal of CHEMTREC’s personal resilience training program is to help individuals expand their adaptive capacity, overcome stressful situations, grow and develop from difficult experiences, change attitudes, and harness the power of positivity.
Behind our successful resilience training program is a story of dedication, passion, and unexpected twists and turns. Bethany Elliott, our in-house organizational psychologist, with the support of Chris Scott and Gareth Black at CHEMTREC, began the organic development of resilience courses built on the success of our psychology of incident leadership courses, which felt like a very natural continuation driven by the needs and desires of our clients.
The initial rollout of our courses has been extremely successful, attracting participants from a variety of backgrounds and industries. These companies recognise the value of improving the resilience of their people, which in turn leads to stronger organisational resilience overall. This begins with a pre-course resilience assessment to support our initial understanding of the content and to establish a baseline for participants’ resilience levels. We then explore the amazing aspects of resilience and understand how we can improve our resilience levels and grow as individuals. A post-course assessment 6 months later allows you to track your individual progress and allows your organisation to see where the investment in this intervention has made its mark within your workforce.
My years of experience would suggest that investing in team resilience is a strategic imperative for companies looking to thrive in today’s volatile business landscape. By fostering resilience among employees, organizations can unlock a wealth of benefits that contribute to improved performance, employee engagement, and overall business success. Essentially, resilience is not just a trait, investing in our people provides a powerful catalyst for organizational resilience and growth.
