Last week was a busy week. The Madrid 2016 bid was finally and as expected (unfortunately) not selected to host the 2016 Olympic Games. Once again in life and as I said before, it was to be expected that logic prevails over illusion . However, someone in the Madrid City Council was far-sighted and a month before the election renewed the domain www.madrid2020.com and also www.madrid2020.es just in case…
European candidates, such as car owner data Paris and Rome, who were present in the 2012 election for the organisation of the games, did not apply to organise the games in 2016. Perhaps using the logic that works so well in life and in the business world, they knew that after London was chosen as the organiser of the games in 2012, no other European city could be chosen to organise the following games. This has meant that the cities of Paris and Rome (which will surely be presenting themselves as candidates in 2020) have saved time and money, which the Mayor of Madrid and his group of advisers and those responsible for the candidacy did not hesitate to squander. Even Samaranch (who knows something about the subject, I say…) advised those responsible for the candidacy not to present themselves in 2016. See link .
German Pineiro's BlogThose who know me know that I am a great fan of various sports, that I have competed in some of them at a high level, but I have not been carried away by illusions in this matter, and I knew from the moment Madrid's candidacy was announced that it would not be chosen. Once again I repeat: "Logic prevails over illusion." Various personalities and sports professionals have publicly said for more than two years that Madrid would not be able to host the 2016 games, but even so, those responsible for the candidacy decided to continue betting on the underdog.
