Contests with receipts follow the same regulations as online contests , therefore they are subject to the Presidential Decree 430/2001 , to the ministerial FAQs that clarify some obsolete aspects of the legislation, to the GDPR regarding user privacy and to the Civil Code . This means that, before launching a contest with an obligation to purchase, it is necessary to carry out a very specific procedure:

and identification of the prizes up for grabs;
payment of a deposit to guarantee the promised premiums, generally by means of an insurance guarantee;
communication to the MiSE via the electronic procedure available from the website impresainungiorno.gov.it to which the regulation and the receipt of payment of the deposit must be attached;
drafting of the winning minutes and closing of the prize competition.
Furthermore, to be compliant with the law, prize competitions country wise email marketing list must be held on Italian soil (art. 1, paragraph 6 of Presidential Decree 430/2001). This, from a technical point of view, means that all participant data must be recorded and stored on Italian servers or copied in real time, with a mirroring system , on Italian servers. The receipt, therefore, must also be recorded on servers located in Italy.

How a contest with a receipt works
The game mechanics of the receipt contests are extremely simple.

After completing the required purchase, the user accesses the competition participation platform by entering their contact information , sends a photo of the receipt containing the promoted products and, if the competition is in Instant Win mode , a screen will appear with the outcome “You won / You didn't win”.

Receipt reading with OCR
The contests with receipt launched with the help of the Leevia platform exploit OCR technology , Optical Character Recognition. This technology is able to make receipts “smart”, since it allows to read all the information contained within them, even from a semantic point of view, so that the brand can extract data to plan marketing activities.

This technology was developed by BEMAP, a company controlled by the Advice Group of which we at Leevia are proudly part, and allows companies to collect very important data such as the quantity of products purchased, the amount spent, the name of the product and the related brand as well as the date and time of purchase. Thanks to OCR it is possible to cross-reference transactional metrics with geo-referenced and behavioral data , extract macro categories of products , competitor brands, volumes and spending potential.

Optical Character Recognition, therefore, not only greatly simplifies user participation in the prize competition, but also allows for Basket Analysis , providing the brand with very valuable information for creating personalized marketing strategies , given that they are based on direct knowledge of the individual consumer.
