Placing a sitemap on the server

Generating a map is not enough. You still need to put it on the server. Your sitemap can have any name and be placed at any address on your domain. To start the upload process, you need to know where it is located.

Remember, Google doesn't check your sitemap every time it crawls your site, only the first time it sees it and when it receives a change. So only tell Google about your sitemap when it's new or updated.
