Every digital workplace is ultimately about people. But for many organizations that are moving from an intranet to a digital workplace, IT is a decisive factor. Crazy, right? Everyone knows that people are the hardest to change, yet IT plays the leading role.

Did you know that in 72 percent of organizations, the IT department makes purchasing decisions about digital workplace technology? In this article, I want to explain why IT is important, but should never be the main focus.

I was visiting Digital Workplace Day, an event of Dutch IT Channel. I decided to visit the event to find out what IT managers think about the digital workplace. Earlier I wrote about the event of Frankwatching around the Digital Workspace , where mainly communication and information managers were present.

Let's be honest, the digital workplace is hip and intranet has a negative connotation. Many organizations made a switch from their intranet to social intranets after the rise of social media vietnam telegram data platforms. And now it's time for the next step. You will also recognize this when you look at well-known intranet developers who rebrand themselves as digital workplaces. But why is the digital workplace so hip?

It is mainly in the wishes and expectations of people. We, the younger generation, grow up with Dropbox (also present at Digital Workplace Day to show their new workspace ), work together via WhatsApp and are constantly able to communicate with each other. We are not used to computers that take four minutes to start up, do not know what faxing or a network drive is and are certainly not used to the remote desktop .

What do we want? A single login to all our applications, not having to install or update anything (that also happens automatically on a mobile), direct communication with colleagues and with such a large IT landscape, only what we personally need. You understand, this has an impact on IT. That is why it is important to closely involve IT colleagues in the transition from an intranet to a digital workspace.

Why doesn't digital transformation work?
Technology seems to be developing faster and faster. People are tired when it comes to digital transformation. Even during the Digital Workplace Day, a question from the audience was whether it will ever stop with all these new solutions. No, is the answer. So what is the problem? Hanns Köhler-Krüner , managing vice president at Gartner (the world's largest research and advisory firm in IT), says that the problem is not the technology, but the people.
