The presence of women in technology is a crucial issue. It not only addresses issues of gender equality, but also the need for diversity in sectors that are key because they shape our future. This article delves into the current situation of women in the fields of science, technology and politics.

What percentage of women currently exist in technology?
While the students in our programs show a healthy gender balance, especially in leading cases such as Business Intelligence and Data Management , this is not the case in all sectors.

A perspective of recent years
The European Union already stated in 2020 that in two years, 45% of jobs would be related to the digital environment. However, for years the percentage of women occupying positions in this area has remained stagnant at 30%. This fact is a clear consequence of the reality experienced in universities, where we find 30% of women in technology degrees .

From a very young age, society has a responsibility in how we bc data malaysia educate them and in the toys, clothes and books we give them. The gender gap begins there and that is why we must be neutral in the education of girls and boys.

Disney princess bedtime stories are charming, but it is also our responsibility to show the new generations the cases of influential women in the world of technology , who have not stopped fighting for women's rights. We must explain who Ada Lovelace was, the first programmer in history, Shirley Ann Jackson, developer of the fax and fiber optics, or Angela Ruiz Robles, precursor of the ebook, among many other technology leaders.

But it's not all doom and gloom! The gender pay gap in technology is smaller than in other sectors - 8.9% compared to 14.2%. Women earn 3.1% more than they would in any other sector in a similar position.

Women in technology today
According to the report Scientists in Figures 2023, in 2021, in Spain there were 249,474 people dedicated to research and development (R&D) in full-time equivalent jobs. Putting this number into perspective, it is as if a small city were completely populated by scientists and technologists. Of this vibrant ecosystem, 40.5% were women , which translates into approximately 101,000 influential women contributing to society and the advancement of knowledge.

While this figure may seem encouraging, a look at the data from the previous year reveals a slightly more complex picture. In 2020, women accounted for 40.7% of R&D staff. Despite the increase in the absolute number of women in the field (from 94,386 in 2020 to 101,031 in 2021), the proportion of women actually decreased slightly. This is a sign that, although progress is being made, gender equality in science and technology in Spain is still a goal in progress .

As for where to find these female scientists, most of them work in the Public Administration and in Higher Education, including business schools . In fact, it is in the Public Administration that women are best represented, constituting 54% of total employment in this sector. At the European Union level, Spain is in a fairly respectable position, ranking eighth in terms of female representation in the field of R&D .
